"Next to Normal" on Broadway

Okay, so I'll admit it: I first started loosely following the new hit musical, Next to Normal, because of Jennifer Damiano.

I don't personally know Damiano, but like other Guilty Ones, have been familiar with her work as ensemble member in the Original Broadway Cast of Tony Award-winning Spring Awakening (which is now playing to West End audiences at the Novello Theatre). Now, it seems that Damiano will get much more attention on the Great White Way, as her role as Natalie Goodman on Next to Normal, which opened to rave reviews Wednesday night.

The musical, which had a previous Off-Broadway run at Second Stage Theater before embarking on a 7-week run at Arena Stage in DC (also to high acclaim), contains music by Tom Kitt, with book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey. Also starring Alice Ripley, J. Robert Spencer and Aaron Tveit.
Ben Brantley of the Times offers his take on the musical here.
